The rapid growth in smartphone use – with the resulting high-bandwidth traffic – is stressing 3G mobile networks and causing major capacity problems. Mobile operators are turning to Wi-Fi (or in some cases, WiMax) as a way to relieve the stress on overloaded 3G networks, especially at high traffic areas in major cities and at major arena and convention centers, where cell capacity is limited and users are not moving between cell sites.
As mobile operators deploy these 3G Offload networks and strike partnerships with Wi-Fi or WiMax network operators, they must have an effective way of managing IP address provisioning and DHCP range allocations across the two networks. The patented Infoblox Grid™, with technology available only from Infoblox, automates management of these services. The Infoblox solution features a high-capacity DHCP server in a hardened appliance, providing single-pane-of-glass management, low operating cost, simple administration, and automated HA/DR via the Infoblox.
